Things to do in Monteverde Cloud Forest

Canopy Tour

The Canopy Tour is one of the safest adventures in Monteverde. The guides of the Canopy Tours begin to prepare the visitors with the appropriate equipment; they explain them the instructions of the tour to avoid an eventual accident and then they will take them through each one of the cables and platforms, optionally, some Canopy’s offers the Tarzan Swing. Several companies offer it with different prices. The tour in general has duration of 2 or 2 ½ hours.

Hanging Bridges

The hanging bridges are a system of paths combined with hanging bridges which crosses the cloud forest. In the paths the visitors will walk through hanging bridges, some companies have 6 or 8 bridges different from several longitudes and altitudes that goes from 10 to 80 meters. Most of the bridges have a capacity of 60 people. The hanging bridges are adapted for people of all ages and physical conditions. Guided walks can be reserved, or if you want you can go without guide and enjoy the views. The tour has duration of 1.5 or 2 hours, depending on the speed you walk.

Night Tours

The night tour is for those people that is interested to know more about the night biodiversity in the cloud forest, is interesting because you can compare the nature in both ways, the day and the night. The tour has an approximate duration of 2 hours, you can make the reservation with us and most of these tours include the transport. Some of them begin at 5:30 p.m. or 7:15 p.m.

Monteverde Cloud Forest & Santa Elena Reserves

Monteverde Reserve includes a presentation in DVD of 10 minutes where it's offered to the visitor an introduction on the flora and fauna of the cloud forest; then they begin the walk for the paths of the Reserve with an experienced naturalistic guide, with two and a half hours of duration, where you will be able to ask questions, or also if you want to make the guided tour without guide, you can enter to the Reserve, paying only the entrance. Tours are offered at 7:30am - 11:30am - 1:00pm. You can also find in the same place a gallery of Colibríes in the main entrance of the Reserve; equally you have many possibilities to take pictures very close to the colibríes.  The Santa Elena Reserve is a very similar forest to the Reserve Monteverde, but fewer visited, the collected funds are dedicated for scholarships to Santa Elena's Professional Technical School. It has an excellent view and in sunny days you can see the Arenal Volcano from Monteverde. There are guided tour offered at 7:30 am - 11:00 am

Horse Back Riding

This tour goes thru private paths, with spectacular views, this tour don't use many public streets, and even, you can have the opportunity to know a creek, all are open fields and 2 canyons will be known. This tour has a duration of 2 ½ hours, the schedule is 9:00am - 3:00pm

Butterfly Garden

Experience a different option. A world in which a controlled climate offers; the ideal temperature of 28º C so the butterflies, larva, insects, etc can survive. Explore a community that gathers more than 20 species of butterflies. Learn of their life cycle and their special abilities, which have allowed that they evolve in each different species. Enjoy a guided walk inside one of the exhibitions of butterflies. Come and enjoy all the marvels that you can discover in this amazing world that it's waiting for you.

Orchid Garden

This garden offers a wide collection of many species of orchids. Each one properly identified with their scientific name; among them you will find the endemic species of Monteverde. You can also receive a guided walk; the tour has an approximate duration of 40 minutes. The paths are accessible for people with some disability type. Open every day from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
